Production

Bigger Isn’t Better. Better is Better.

Producing our own seed, with our own innovation, dedication and quality control standards is the foundation of our success. And it’s an area of competitive difference since 1946.

Raised Right

At Wyffels Hybrids, we focus on one product. And we believe that focus allows us to produce the best seed corn in the Central Corn Belt. How? By producing our own seed and sweating every detail in between.

Quality

Nobody Produces Higher-Quality Seed Corn Than Wyffels Hybrids.

First, Wyffels Hybrids has developed hybrids with far too much value to cap their potential with normal production standards. It’s simple, our investment into developing the most advanced hybrids in the industry is wasted if we can’t deliver that potential in seed prepared to thrive in extreme growing conditions.

Second, today fewer and fewer seed companies put the time and investment into handling their own seed production, which may not be surprising—producing seed is a difficult, expensive process. But we know how important high-quality seed is to the success of our customers, so frankly we see it as our responsibility to personally see to it that it’s done right and to our standards.

Standards

The More Things Change, the More They Stay the Same.

It would be safe to say a lot of things have changed in our seed production process since the first Wyffels Hybrids bags were produced and sold all those years ago. But with all those advancements, there are some very important things that haven’t changed.

  • Every seed field is still selected, walked, inspected and monitored by our own people (and still often times by people named Wyffels) to ensure everything is managed to produce the highest-quality seed.
  • Each and every seed lot goes through multiple rounds of rigorous quality testing to ensure it meets our industry-leading quality and purity standards. Even after initial new-crop testing, each hybrid, size and lot is placed on a schedule for follow-up testing in the Wyffels Quality Assurance Lab. And all traited hybrids are inspected and tested by an accredited, independent laboratory to ensure thorough trait integration.
  • Every FastFill® and seed pallet is prepared, picked and labeled specifically for each customer and farm. We know how important your seed choice is to your success. Hybrid choices are made specifically for the unique needs of your farm and fields, so we want to ensure you get exactly what you need, when you need it.

It’s not all standard industry practice, but it’s all done at Wyffels to ensure we always deliver corn that exceeds industry standards and starts our customers on the path to success. Put simply, from choosing our seed production fields and growers, to constantly inspecting for weeds, insects and disease, to carefully harvesting ears, sorting, conditioning, shelling, seed cleaning and sizing, every step is performed with a level of attention that is, well, personal.

Our pledge

A Commitment to the Future.

As our business has tripled in the last decade, and we continue to serve more corn growers across the Corn Belt than ever before, we recognize that means more and more corn growers are making a choice and entrusting us to provide the highest performing hybrids and drive their success.

The quality of our genetics and the seed that delivers those genetics to your fields is something we will never compromise, which is why we’ve made significant investments in our Atkinson, Illinois production facility—to ensure we continue to deliver the outstanding seed quality and standards you’ve come to expect.

With an eye to the future, we have broken ground on a new facility near Ames, Iowa. This site will ensure that Wyffels’ growing customer base continues to enjoy industry leading products and support throughout the growing season. The first phase of construction includes a new warehouse and distribution center to bring seed closer to customers in Iowa, South Dakota, and Minnesota.

Adding a new facility in the center of the western portion of the Wyffels geography is the next step of our evolution. The new Iowa site will expand as further growth drives the need for additional capabilities.

From the first bag Bill Wyffels, Sr. produced, processed, and bagged on the home farm north of Atkinson, Illinois, to the over 1 million units we will process this year at our Atkinson production facility, the goal and focus has remained the same—produce and deliver the highest-quality seed possible to our customers. If you demand the highest-quality seed in the industry, it makes sense to buy it from the people who produce it. At Wyffels, producing quality seed is one of our most tangible differences.
