At Wyffels, we believe strong communities don't happen by accident. They're built by people willing to invest their time, share their talents, and serve their neighbors year after year. 

That's why we're proud to partner with the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network and the Iowa State Fair to recognize the recipients of the 2026 Heart of the County Fair Award, honoring the individuals and families who help keep Iowa's county fair tradition strong.  

County fairs have long been a cornerstone of rural communities. They're places where young people learn responsibility, leadership, and the value of hard work. They're where families gather, neighbors reconnect, and communities celebrate agriculture and the people who make it possible.

The Heart of the County Fair Award was created to recognize those who make those experiences possible. Whether serving on a fair board, mentoring youth exhibitors, volunteering countless hours, or leading efforts behind the scenes, these recipients represent the dedication and community spirit that keep county fairs thriving across Iowa.  

This year's recipients include: 

  • Northwest District: Candice Farrer, Plymouth County Fair 

  • Northeast District: Dana Strendel, Big 4 County Fair 

  • Southeast District: Richard Coussens, Mississippi Valley Fair 

  • South Central District: The Justin Rozenboom Family, Monroe County Fair 

  • Southwest District: Gerald Sychra, Adair County Fair 

  • North Central District: Wade and Pam Kahler, Story County Fair  

Throughout the summer, each recipient was recognized in front of the communities they serve during their local county fairs. Friends, neighbors, exhibitors, and fellow volunteers gathered to celebrate the impact these individuals and families have made on their fairs and the generations of fairgoers who have benefited from their leadership.  

The celebration continued at the Iowa State Fair, where all six recipients were honored during County Fair Day. Their stories serve as a reminder that behind every successful fair is a team of passionate volunteers committed to creating opportunities for young people and strengthening their local communities.
